The second of two contrasting smoking experiences in the Coroneta line from Crowned Heads is the Coroneta Habano. The cigar joins the Coroneta Maduro, with the company taking the unique approach of contracting each blend from two factories: one from Nicaragua (Coroneta Habano) and the other from the DR (Coroneta Maduro).
The name was inspired by the term for a small crown, with each of the sizes being named for headdresses worn by lower-ranking members of nobility throughout the 16th century. While the Coroneta Habano was the second cigar to be released in the collection, it's actually much older than the Maduro, said to have been developed and "production ready" two years before its eventual release.
The Coroneta Habano cigar comes from the NACSA factory of Nicaragua, making use of an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, and Nicaraguan fillers from the Estelí, Condega, and Jalapa growing regions. Medium to medium-plus in body, the Coroneta Habano is balanced, zesty, and all-around "classic Habano" in overall character. Expect toasted woods and cabinet spice upon first light, opening up with notes of gingersnap, bright coffee bean, and tangy sourdough bread.
