Ah the American 1950s… a time when one could build their own hot rod, when music finally began to rock, when you felt safe enough to leave the doors unlocked at night, and even pinup girls retained an aura of class and dignity - there’s a reason we refer to it as “The Golden Age”!
CAO looks to capture the spirit of these “happy days” with the CAO Flathead, combining near-any cigar enthusiast’s three favorite talking points (cars, cigars, and girls) into one glorious display of flavorful nostalgia.
Let’s start with the packaging, where CAO has enlisted the help of auto parts manufacturers; using authentic machinery to fabricate the box lids, including actual engine paint—as an added benefit, box lids can be removed to showcase as a display piece. The cigars are CAO’s first fully box-pressed offering, including a unique, squared-off cap (hence the name, Flathead). Each size features bright, hot-rod-inspired color themes, and are named after classic engine parts (Piston, Camshaft, etc.), showcasing primarily stalky sizes.
But it’s the smoking experience that earned Flathead multiple awards, including Cigar Aficionado’s #3 Cigar of the Year for 2015! A thick and oily Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper conceals a Habano-seed Connecticut binder and Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers, chock-full with high-priming ligero leaves… In other words, this is a full smoking experience! Flavors abound, with rich notes of dark chocolate, espresso powder, stone fruit, and leather.
