From the mid 12th century until 1856, a massive oak tree stood in Hartford, Connecticut. The tree was planted by Native Americans as a ceremonial symbol of peace, and it later went on to have significant meaning for early American settlers, hiding the Charter of 1662 within a cavity of the oak when King James II came in search of it. This legendary tale prompted the “Charter Oak” to become known as one of our country’s greatest symbols of American independence.
Foundation Cigar Co. draws inspiration from this peculiar oak for their highly anticipated third release. Nick Melillo, creator of Foundation, is a native to the Connecticut region, and not-so-coincidentally has become known over the years for his skill in blending Connecticut Broadleaf-wrapped cigars.
Charter Oak brings Nick back to his hometown, creating three affordable smoking experiences for enthusiasts who enjoy anything from mild to fuller profiles. This includes the Charter Oak CT Shade, Charter Oak CT Habano, and Charter Oak CT Broadleaf cigars. The latter (sometimes known as Charter Oak maduro) makes use of Melillo's specialty of Broadleaf wrapper tobacco. This gritty cover leaf surrounds all-Nicaraguan binder/fillers, selected from the acclaimed fields of A.J. Fernández. Additionally, the cigars are rolled at A.J.'s factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, offering top-notch craftsmanship at a surprisingly affordable price point. Expect a medium-plus intensity, hitting highlight flavors of roasted nuts, chocolate pastry, earth, zesty peppercorn, and yes, plenty of toasted oak.
Country of Orgin : Nicaragua
Strength : Medium
Wrapper : Maduro
*Please note that all SKUs have two product lines. The top line is the box/bundle count. The second line is less than a box/bundle count and will be shipped as loose cigars in a humidified bag.

Nick delivered a great budget stick in the foundation line. Perfect for that summer day, when you're outside doing some yard work and want to have a friend tag along.

What else can you choose when you only have 15 minutes to smoke abd you don’t want to compromise on quality or flavor? Charter Oak Maduro by Foundation cigars is the choice for me. Why not their prime offerings the cigar provides a great smokin experience for the money. Typical in maduro flavors but still flavorful enough for the buck spent! If you’re looking for economical smoking experience I suggest you try the charter Oak maduro.

One of my favorite “every day” smokes, this my first introduction to not only Foundation but the Connecticut Broadleaf family and it sparked a loved for them. This is one I keep a box of for those quick and cheap moments. 10/10 will keep on hand.

The chief of broadleaf came through with a solid cigar at an even better price. I love foundation as a brand and this cigar came to steal the show. When it comes to bang for your buck this thing does not upset. It's a nice earthy robust smoke and the retrohale is the same but enhanced. I love smoking these when I have nothing to do but they are priced well enough that if I'm busy and don't want to put much thought into what I'm smoking that it's feasible. I prefer coffee with most of my cigars but there are some that just belong with a coffee and this is one of them!
