Cigar Dojo's highly anticipated Cigar of the Year 2023 picks have officially been announced, and Smoke Inn is proud to be the exclusive partner for the year-end sampler. New for 2023, the Dojo's awards for the year's best cigars was expanded from a Top 10 to a Top 20 list, and we've worked closely with the Dojo team to select a sampling of five such cigars to best represent the spirit of the year-end list.
Dunbarton Mi Querida Black PapaSaka
Selected as the No. 1 Cigar of the Year 2023 is the Mi Querida Black PapaSaka by Steve Saka and his fan-favorite Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust. The fullest-bodied smoke on the list, PapaSaka offers a gritty maduro experience for the flavor-craved cigar junkie! This corona gorda jumps out the gate with a full tilt flavor output, hitting notes of raw peppercorn, sweet loam, chocolate pastry, and punchy cinnamon.

Illusione Original Documents Habano
The Illusione Original Documents Habano was the Dojo's No. 5 Cigar of the Year for 2023. This was a unique project for Illusione, with owner/founder, Dion Giolito, departing from his usual manufacturing partner to see what he could accomplish with A.J. Fernández and his San Lotano factory in northern Nicaragua. The result is a new perspective on an old favorite, showcasing a flavor-forward Habano experience that's sweet, lightly spicy through the retrohale, and balanced to the core.

Perdomo 30th Anniversary Sun Grown
Twenty twenty-three saw the highly anticipated 30th Anniversary blend from Perdomo come to life, with the Perdomo 30th Anniversary Sun Grown cigar being named the No. 6 Cigar of the Year 2023 from Cigar Dojo. Perdomo decided to treat cigar enthusiasts for the company's milestone achievement, delivering an astonishing 15-year-aged tobacco recipe throughout the wrapper, binder, and filler! Not only this, but the cigar's Cuban-seed sun-grown wrapper spent additional time in barrels formerly used to age Kentucky bourbon. The end result is zesty and flavorful, offering a velvet-like texture on the palate.

In celebration of Tatuaje's 20th anniversary in 2023, the company added onto their anniversary series with a pair of Ecuadorian Habano-wrapped sizes. The Tatuaje 20th Anniversary was named Cigar Dojo's No. 8 Cigar of the Year for 2023, offering a weighty mouthfeel and long-lasting complexities of mineral, raw peppercorn, burnt caramel, and an irresistible salty-sweet sensation from the cut tobacco on the lips.

Aganorsa Leaf Aniversario Connecticut
Aganorsa Leaf rounded out the fan-favorite Aniversario series in 2023, with the Aganorsa Leaf Aniversario Connecticut taking home Cigar Dojo's No. 13 Cigar of the Year for 2023. With a natural-hued Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, the blend is fuller in body that the conventional Connecticut. The cigar offers a thick and voluminous smoke output, lingering with flavors of freshly cut cedar, white pepper, nutty browned butter, and nougat through the finish.
