Not only has Crowned Heads remained one of the most beloved names in the craft cigar scene since debuting in 2011, but the company has since proven itself among the most nimble, hitting home-run releases from multiple cigar factories throughout Nicaragua and the DR.
The latest such example sees Crowned Heads venturing to the NACSA factory of Estelí, Nicaragua, amounting to the limited-edition Crowned Heads Azul y Oro cigar. As story has it, CH founders Mike Conder and Jon Huber first traveled to the factory in the spring of 2011, offering Gustavo Cura (of Oliva Tobacco Co. and NACSA fame) a bottle of his favorite whisky: Johnny Walker Blue Label. In remembrance of their friendship, that bottle remains unopened to this day, helping to inspire a smoking experience with similar branding (Azul y Oro translates to Blue and Gold) and overall experience.
The CH Azul y Oro cigar begins with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, concealing a Nicaraguan (Jalapa) binder and fillers of Nicaragua (including three unique regions) and the Dominican Republic. This makes for a rich and complex experience, maintaining a medium-plus intensity and lingering notes of oak, classic leather, black pepper, and dark cocoa through the finish.
