Debuting six years after the award-winning E.P. Carrillo Encore cigar, the Encore Black marks the first official spinoff blend of any cigar within E.P. Carrillo's famed Perez-Carrillo series.
The cigar it is based upon—Perez-Carrillo Encore—turned heads in 2018, being the first EPC blend to win Cigar Aficionado's coveted Cigar of the Year award. But when setting out to deliver a proper yin to the Encore's yang, Carrillo didn't opt for a simple wrapper swap (a common practice for cigar manufacturers). Instead, an all-new recipe was concocted, attempting to deliver a familiar yet largely new experience for fuller-bodied cigar enthusiasts.
As such, the Perez-Carrillo Encore Black cigar swaps the Nicaraguan wrapper of the original for a hearty Connecticut Broadleaf maduro leaf. Under the hood, the Nicaraguan binder of the original has been replaced with a Mexican San Andrés leaf, which surrounds an all-Nicaraguan filler blend from the country's Condega, Estelí, and Jalapa regions. The end result is a more robust, medium to full-bodied smoking experience, being thick in texture and delivering long-lasting characteristics of toasted oak, black pepper, semi-sweet espresso, and touches of stone fruit through the finish.
