Whether you're looking at the original La Palina of the early 20th century or its modern-day revival, the company has always made it a point to celebrate its founders, their loved ones, and the milestones they share along the way. This holds true more than 125 years after the original La Palina debuted, with the La Palina 1948 cigar being made in celebration of Bill Paley (La Palina chairman and grandson of the original founder) and his 75th birthday, which took place in March 2023.
Such an impressive milestone is worthy of a smoking experience of the highest order, and La Palina set out to accomplish the task by partnering with the world-renowned Oliva family to bring their vision to life. The cigar at hand is the La Palina 1948, featuring a vintage aesthetic that includes depictions of both Estelí and Manhattan as they appeared in 1948—the year Bill Paley was born.
The La Palina 1948 was rolled out of the Olivas' famed factory in Nicaragua, making use of a two-year-aged sun-grown Sumatra wrapper from Ecuador and all-Nicaraguan binder/filler from the Olivas' farms throughout the country. Offered in a range of box-pressed formats, the La Palina 1948 cigar brings out a medium intensity, hitting standout characteristics of toasted cedar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and touches of ginger snap cookie through the finish.
