Famously created by Alonso Menéndez in 1935, using inspiration from the book of the same name, Montecristo enters into the brand's milestone 85th anniversary in 2020. As cigar enthusiasts are well aware, the premium cigar world is one enamored with tradition, not letting a birthday, anniversary, or any other celebratory occasion go to waste. As such, Montecristo has partnered with Master Blender A.J. Fernández to showcase a special smoking experience, dubbed Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua.
Montecristo is no stranger to working with Fernández, partnering with the cigarmaker on popular releases such as the Montecristo Nicaragua Series and Monte by Montecristo AJ Fernandez. But while both of these cigars were rolled at Fernández's primary factory in Estelí, the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua heads to one of the northernmost regions of Nicaragua, being rolled at the San Lotano factory in Ocotal. Being a smaller operation, Fernández is able to offer a more boutique environment with a meticulous attention to detail. This is displayed front and center with Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua, using a puro recipe of tobaccos grown exclusively on Fernández's farms throughout the country. The cigars are then soft-pressed in the traditional manner, allowing for less stress on the tobaccos and a gentle melding of the tobacco blend.
Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua is a celebratory smoke worthy of its namesake, displaying a medium intensity and fine-tuned complexities for the seasoned palate. This includes highlight characteristics of toasted oak, cinnamon, sweet malt, coffee bean, and nougat through the finish.

Shannon Coombs - Montecristo Nicaraguan 1935 Anniversary Toro
This cigar blew my socks off. I'm an AJ fan but this exceeded my expectations. A very meaty stick, plenty of flavor.

My favorite Montecristo, it's consistent in construction (we've been through our fair share of boxes lol) and always delivers big, bold, complex flavors with just the right amount of strength to make this a reliable smoke when we want something a bit on the hearty side.

JACOB NEELY - Montecristo Nicaraguan 1935 Anniversary Churchill
I'm not a huge fan of Altadis brands but this is an exception. Really lovely medium body experience with aged notes of oak, cinnamon, and a hint of espresso. Absolutely worth the price!
