In 2002, unbeknownst to cigar hobbyists of the time, José "Don Pepín" García quietly made his emigration from Cuba to Miami. In the two-plus decades to follow, he and his family expanded their humble cigar operation into one of the most dominant forces in the world of premium cigars.
García's first hit was the DPG Blue Label, arriving in 2003 and being rolled out of a boutique-style storefront factory in Miami's Little Havana neighborhood. The family's next hit was a cigar that changed the face of the company moving forward: My Father. First arriving in 2008, the My Father cigar was blended in Nicaragua by García's son, Jaime, who made the blend in secret in honor of his father. This highly flavorful cigar went on to receive Cigar Aficionado's No. 3 Cigar of the Year, which inspired the Garcías to change the name of their company and Nicaraguan factory to My Father Cigars.
This was only the beginning for My Father Cigars, going on to receive countless other accolades in premium cigar circles, most notably including two highly coveted Cigar of the Year awards from Cigar Aficionado (Flor de las Antillas in 2012 and My Father Le Bijou 1922 in 2015). The Garcías now grow much of their own tobacco, harvested from their various farms throughout Nicaragua. When combined with one of the most respected cigar factories in the country, as well as the Garcías' hard-earned expertise, My Father Cigars has become a vertically integrated operation capable of consistently producing many of the world's best smoking experiences.
