The Upsetters is a collection of Jamaican-inspired infused cigars from the mind of Nick Mellilo. After leaving Drew Estate (former Executive Vice President of International Operations) in 2014, Nick established Foundation Cigar Company, drawing inspiration from Mellilo's home bases of Connecticut, Estelí, and Jamaica.
With The Upsetters, the cigars begin in Jamaica, where an ancient tobacco known as "cow tongue" sets the stage for a wide range of unorthodox profiles. The cigars are then complimented by a selection of primarily Nicaraguan leaves. In this way, Nick has touched on the little-known bond between the two countries, where the east coast of Nicaragua is alternatively known as the "Reggae coast."
Each cigar in The Upsetters collection offers both a unique size and blend. The cigars are named for the Jamaican underdogs of the '60s—the protestors of tyranny, the creators of reggae music, and patrons of gunslingin' spaghetti westerns. Cigar names such as "The Original Rude Boy," "Django," "Ska," and "Zola" reflect this mindset, with each and every blend showcasing infusion techniques known as "Caribbean atmospheric herbal fusion."
The cigars are intended for smokers from all walks of life, offering something for beginners and veteran enthusiasts alike. Flavors range from natural tobacco, to ripe fruit, exotic teas, herbs, flowers, natural sweetness, and everything in between.
