Despite tracing their roots in the cigar world back to 1800s Cuba, it wasn't until the 2006 release of the Oliva Serie V cigar that Oliva Cigar Co. became a household name for cigar enthusiasts the world over. Building on the familiar naming pattern such as Oliva Serie O and Oliva Serie G, the Serie V established itself as the top dog within the Oliva portfolio, offering a much fuller-bodied experience when compared to its siblings.

Like virtually all Oliva cigars, the Oliva Serie V centers around Nicaraguan tobaccos (as the Oliva family is among the leading growers of Nicaraguan tobacco). This includes a special selection of ligero tobacco from the famed Jalapa Valley growing region. Topping the recipe off is a high-priming, oily, sun-grown wrapper, with the combined experience helping to pioneer the fuller-bodied Nicaraguan profile that cigars continue to emulate to this day.

    I really like this blend; it's much fuller bodied than most of the Oliva portfolio. That being said, I always get a tight draw from the Oliva V. It would be a 4 star if not for the consistent construction issues.
